People have been sharing alleged wreckage pictures showing the OceanGat submarine, but did they get leaked online?
On June 22, OceanGate confirmed that all five passengers in the submarine had died. Following this announcement, their website stopped working as people rushed to find some answers.
Now, alleged images of the wreckage have been going viral on social media platforms such as TikTok and people have been wondering if there is any truth attached to them.
A look at the viral images
The viral images that are being shared online show debris in the ocean and the most popular image is of a machine that looks a lot like a submarine.
Meanwhile, the other pictures show debris that consists of a shoe, some clothes, and more. People on TikTok have been constantly sharing clips on the platform claiming that these are the first official images of the debris that have been released to the public while others have been claiming that they are leaked.
Are these alleged leaked pictures real?
No, these photos are not real as no official pictures of the Titan have been released. There are several AI-Generated images that are also being shared on Twitter.
On June 22, the death of the five members onboard was confirmed by OceanGate in a statement that was released to the public.
It read: “We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost.”
“These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans. Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew.”
The company thanked everyone who helped with the search while requesting people for some privacy.
“This is a very sad time for the entire explorer community, and for each of the family members of those lost at sea,” the statement said.
