In a Reddit thread that’s got everyone wanting more, one user has shared images of band names interpreted very literally by AI technology and they’re weirdly addictive to look at.
User Jeruvio, aka u/Greedy-Antelope-4084, started the intriguing thread on Friday (16 June), crediting the AI-generated pics to Midjourney and other Redditors just can’t get enough of the striking images.
From a stunning interpretation of The Velvet Underground, featuring a red, luxe-looking carriage to a comic take on a pebble-encrusted car to represent The Rolling Stones, and a terrifyingly dystopian depiction of Green Day showing an ominous skyline below green skies – these AI-generated images are ones you could pore over for hours.
Other images include children standing in a snowy playground to signify Coldplay and an equally satisfying – or gag- triggering – jar of purple globes to represent Pearl Jam.
With over 3,000 likes in just 17 hours at the time of writing, Redditors are already making requests for other takes from the robot artist.
One joked: “Finally we can find out who the Foo Fighters are fighting.”
A second simply said: “More, more!”
Another pleaded: “We need them all please.”
Other popular requests have been for Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age and Rage Against the Machine.
Lastly there were some comic mis-guesses made including ‘red train’, ‘stone car’ and ‘green armageddon’.
Suggestions for ways to use the images ranged from album covers to a fun pub-quiz round.
In recent months, there have been many types of AI art that have sparked conversation online.
It’s clear we’re all very interested in whatever new phenomenon artificial intelligence spits out at us.
